Program Highlight: Rocky Mountain Bighorn Sheep

Did you know Colorado’s state mammal is the bighorn sheep? Some lucky visitors have the opportunity to see these beautiful animals when they visit the Garden of the Gods, and even staff get excited to see them! But how big do they get? How do they avoid getting headaches when they fight during the mating season?
Every Monday from now until May you have the chance to join park volunteer Michele and learn the answers to these questions and more. In addition to volunteering in the Garden, Michele volunteers with Colorado Parks and Wildlife transporting injured wildlife to licensed rehabilitators. Needless to say, she is a fantastic resource to learn from! This is a family-friendly, drop-in program, so come by anytime between 10 and 10:45 am – no registration required.
And don’t forget to mark your calendar for our special Rocky Mountain Bighorn Sheep day – a whole day dedicated to learning about these animals, including crafts and (hopefully) a chance to see them in the Park or through our wildlife scopes. Bighorn Sheep Day will be held from 10 am – 2 pm on Saturday, February 14th – come prepared for crafts, wildlife presentations, and more!
